CPP Disability Pension

Buwanang pensyon — hanggang $1,741/buwan

2026 Benefit Amounts

  • Flat-rate portion: $610.46/month
  • Maximum amount: $1,741.20/month
  • Children's benefit: ~$302/month per child (indexed annually)

Eligibility

  • Must have contributed to CPP (through employment)
  • Disability must be "severe" — prevents you from working at any job regularly (not just your previous job)
  • Disability must be "prolonged" — long-term and of indefinite duration, or likely to result in death
  • Must be under 65

Common Denial Reasons

  • Insufficient CPP contributions — need contributions in 4 of last 6 years
  • "Can do other work" — CRA determines you could work a different job
  • Insufficient medical evidence — not enough documentation of severity
  • Application language — focuses on current job rather than any substantially gainful occupation

Quebec Note

Quebec has its own pension plan (QPP). Quebec residents apply for QPP Disability instead of CPP-D. The QPP disability pension has a flat-rate portion of $610.43/month (2026) plus a variable portion based on contributions, with a maximum of $1,737.67/month.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the CPP-D application form (ISP-1151)
  2. Have your doctor complete the medical report
  3. Submit through Service Canada (online, mail, or in person)
  4. Processing takes 3-4 months typically
