Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD)

$25-$646/month depending on assessed needs

A provincial program providing monthly payments to help with the extra costs of caring for a child with a severe disability. Rate increased 2.8% in July 2025. Also covers assistive device assessments and device consumer contributions. CDB is exempted from ACSD calculations.

Eligibility: Child must have a severe disability requiring extra care and supervision beyond what is typical for their age. Must be an Ontario resident. Financial need is considered.

Ontario Autism Program (OAP)

Interim funding: $20,000/year (under 6), $5,000/year (6-18)

Ontario's program for children and youth with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Registered through AccessOAP. Currently under an interim funding model with the government working toward a needs-based model using a Determination of Needs process (4-hour virtual interview). Services include ABA, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and mental health supports. Waitlists are significant, and families report costs of $26,000-$130,000/year for autism supports.

Eligibility: Child or youth must have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder from a qualified professional. Must be an Ontario resident. Register through AccessOAP portal.

Special Services at Home (SSAH)

Varies based on assessed needs

A needs-based funding program providing support for in-home and community services for persons with developmental or physical disabilities. Covers personal development and growth activities as well as respite care to give caregivers a break.

Eligibility: Must be an Ontario resident with a developmental or physical disability. Funding is needs-based and determined through assessment.

ARCH Disability Law Centre

ARCH Disability Law Centre is a specialty community legal clinic providing free legal services to persons with disabilities across Ontario. A not-for-profit with charitable status, funded primarily by Legal Aid Ontario, ARCH offers a Summary Advice & Referral service — legal information, summary legal advice, and legal/non-legal referrals — on disability-related areas of law including accessibility, homecare and attendant/PSW services, transportation, discrimination and human rights, workplace accommodation (non-unionized employees), education (primary through post-secondary), service animals and guide dogs, decision-making rights, and removing guardianship.
